Wildlife as Pets?

20 NOV 2012: There are a myriad of reasons as to why we need to ensure that our dwindling and threatened wildlife do not have to face yet another obstacle jeopardising their long term survival. For many decades, proponents wishing to see wildlife become suburban pets have been intimately connected with the pet trade and view wildlife as just another commodity to be marketed. Environmentalists and animal welfare groups have long argued in the defense of wildlife.

Brushtail Possums under threat from commercial interests

20 NOV 2012: A Draft Management Plan for the Commercial Harvest and Export of the Common Brushtail Possum (Trichosurus vulpecula) in Tasmania was recently submitted to the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities for approval. Due to an influx of submissions from the public and groups like Against Animal Cruelty Tasmania, the plan had to be amended and was resubmitted.
